| I received my bachelor’s degree
in business management at the University of Central Florida in 1985.
After working in the restaurant business for 10 years, I felt the
need for a change. I was fortunate enough to discover occupational
therapy and earned my masters degree in 1992 at Texas Woman’s
University in Dallas, Texas.
Over the next 11 years, I worked as on occupational therapist
in south Florida in a variety of settings. During the last 7 years,
I had been focusing on hand therapy, which I enjoyed very much
and had intended on earning my CHT. However, as managed care evolved,
I was forced to make several important decisions.
As a result, REHAB WOODWORKS, LLC evolved. REHAB WOODWORKS is
a small business idea that developed both out of necessity and
desire. Finding full time work became increasingly difficult in
South Florida. Employers were cutting costs. Consequently, I began
fabricating my own therapy tools to use with my patients.
After doing some research, I realized that I could make these
products on a larger scale. I wanted to be able to provide high
quality tools at a lower cost than was currently available. These
products would be handcrafted piece by piece. I wanted to go back
to basics and build an excellent product that our clients would
be able to use to their advantage. My primary goal is to offer
other physical and occupational therapists products that are very
strong and durable, attractive and reasonably priced. After all,
given the current therapy arena, in order to maximize our referral
base, we must impress our customers with good outcomes (in a shorter
period) and with impressive facilities, which includes the equipment
we use during treatment.
To achieve this goal, I strive to maintain low costs by working
as a sole proprietor and not focusing on maximizing profits by
escalating prices 300% above cost. Working as a sole proprietor
allows me a few luxuries few of us see anymore. That is, I am
able to work with you to modify or customize any product based
on your client’s needs.
Many of the products made at REHAB WOODWORKS have been modified
based on my experience as an occupational therapist and feedback
from the physical therapists I have had the pleasure of working
with. However, if there is a product you need modified further
or one you need that is not offered at REHAB WOODWORKS, I will
work with you to develop the product needed for your particular
clients.
That is what I mean by getting back to basics…good quality,
good value, and good service. These concepts are very important
to me in my everyday life and I am determined to offer these same
qualities at REHAB WOODWORKS, LLC.
